Sophie had never expected to see him again – her ex-boyfriend’s dad, Mr. Robert Walker. It had been years since she broke up with his son, Adam, and she had done her best to put that part of her past behind her. But fate seemed to have other plans.
One rainy afternoon, while waiting for a taxi, Sophie spotted a familiar figure across the street. It was Mr. Walker, looking as handsome and distinguished as ever, with a few streaks of silver in his dark hair. He was just as she remembered – tall, confident, and exuding a quiet charisma that had always drawn her in.
He noticed her too, and a smile tugged at the corners of his lips. Sophie’s heart skipped a beat, and she couldn’t help but feel a rush of nostalgia. She knew it was wrong, even forbidden, but something about him still stirred feelings she thought she had buried.
Mr. Walker crossed the street and approached her, holding an umbrella over both of them to shield them from the rain. “Sophie, it’s been a while,” he said, his voice as smooth as she remembered.
“Mr. Walker, it’s nice to see you again,” she replied, trying to keep her composure. But being so close to him brought back memories she had tried to forget.
He chuckled softly, “Please, call me Robert.”
The conversation flowed effortlessly, and before she knew it, they were sitting in a nearby coffee shop, catching up on each other’s lives. Sophie learned that he had divorced years ago, and Adam had moved to another city to pursue his career. She shared her own stories of success and struggles, carefully avoiding any mention of her love life.
As they talked, Sophie couldn’t help but notice the way he looked at her, the way he listened intently to every word she said. It felt different from before, more intense and intimate. She tried to dismiss the thoughts that crept into her mind – thoughts that were dangerous and forbidden.
The rain had stopped by the time they finished their coffee, and Robert offered to walk her home. Part of her wanted to decline the offer, to put some distance between them, but another part of her craved his company. Against her better judgment, she accepted.
As they walked, their shoulders occasionally brushed, sending small jolts of electricity through her body. She knew she was playing with fire, but she couldn’t resist the pull she felt towards him. It was wrong, she reminded herself, but the heart doesn’t always listen to reason.
When they reached her apartment building, Sophie hesitated. “Thank you for walking me home, Robert,” she said, trying to keep her voice steady. “I had a lovely time catching up.”
He smiled warmly, his eyes locking onto hers. “The pleasure was all mine, Sophie,” he replied. “It was great to see you again after all these years.”
Before she could stop herself, she leaned in, and he did too. Their lips met in a soft, hesitant kiss, igniting a passion that had been dormant for too long. Guilt washed over her immediately, and she pulled away, her heart pounding in her chest.
“I’m sorry,” she whispered, tears welling in her eyes. “This is so wrong. I can’t do this.”
Robert’s face showed a mix of regret and understanding. “You’re right, Sophie,” he said, his voice strained. “We shouldn’t have done that.”
With a heavy heart, Sophie bid him goodbye, retreating into her apartment. She leaned against the door, trying to steady her breath and compose herself. The forbidden kiss had opened a floodgate of emotions she had suppressed for years.
In the days that followed, Sophie couldn’t get him out of her mind. She knew that what they had done was a mistake, but the longing persisted. She had to remind herself that the past was behind her, and she needed to move forward.
Sophie focused on her work and social life, doing her best to bury the feelings she had for her ex-boyfriend’s dad. It wasn’t easy, but she knew she had to resist the temptation.
And yet, every now and then, when she least expected it, she would catch a glimpse of him in a crowded street or hear his voice in her mind. The memories of that forbidden kiss lingered like a bittersweet reminder of a love she could never have.
